about Joseph P. Acquavella
Joseph Acquavella, former Managing Partner and Senior Tax Partner of Acquavella, Chiarelli, Shuster, LLP, Certified Public Accountants & Advisors, brings over 40 years of expertise in tax advice and consulting services. His client-focused approach has helped corporations, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals achieve their financial goals and navigate marketplace challenges.
Joseph’s comprehensive skill set spans tax, accounting, and business consulting. He excels in assisting clients with IRS controversies and strategic business planning. His commitment to year-round tax planning and operational efficiency drives best practices. High-net-worth individuals and closely held companies form the core of his practice.
Notably, Joseph has published articles in the Practical Accountant and delivered tax seminars to accountants, bankers, and clients across various industries. He also serves as an adjunct professor at Fairleigh Dickinson Graduate School and has lectured at CW Post Graduate School, City University of New York.
Joseph is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Tax Division, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. His contributions extend to the Taxation of Financial Instruments Committee within the New York State Society of CPAs. Additionally, he has held leadership roles in organizations like the Metropolitan Credit Club, Phoenix Credit Club, and the Guardian Angels Alliance (501-C-3) operating in 35 states.
His career journey began at the Trust Division of Manufacturers Hanover in Rockefeller Center, NYC. Joseph later served as an agent in the Internal Revenue Service’s Manhattan District Examination division and became a member of the IRS strike force working with CID on civil and criminal tax matters. He joined the New York CPA firm of Berenson, Berenson, Adler & Co. (now part of J.H. Cohn LLP) and consulted for Eisner & Lubin LLP, CPA’s.Â
Joseph holds an M.S. in Taxation from Long Island University and a B.S. in Accounting from Brooklyn College, New York City. His qualifications also include a Series 7 NASD license and Series 66.Â
Outside of work, Joseph enjoys family time with his wife, Arlene. They have five children and five grandchildren.
